After a ceremonial 5k run in Central Park, I left New York via a short ferry ride across the Hudson to Hoboken. I knew that at some point I would finally get to see my 1st Wawa, but I also knew that New Jersey was going to be a challenge. NJ lived up to the hype! I traveled through Hoboken, Newport, Jersey City, and Harison enroute to Newark on day one. Throughout the day I didn’t see a single Wawa, but I did see a maze of swamps, train lines, highway overpasses and airplanes.
Just when things seemed darkest literally (it was dusk), as I was approaching Newark things began to look up!
For the next two days things got progressively better….for the most part. I traveled through a plethora of “Brunswicks” and outran some nasty storms on the way to Princeton,
and had a wet night at a gypsy campsite.
…the best thing about New Jersey though is that it’s right next to Pennsylvania….which means today I get to see my wife and friends for the first time in a month and a half….and sleep in my bed….before I start the remaining 1400 miles to Key West!
