Whirlwind trip through Delaware

After leaving Philly I took a direct route to Delaware….which also put me in chester city. So at around 5:00pm I pulled into Harrah’s Philadelphia, which is actually in Chester???

Two hours later, with a couple crisp one hundred dollar bills in my socks I ran my way out of Chester and into Delaware….Thanks Harrahs!

With my windfall, I stayed in a luxurious motel just off I95 (sixty eight dollars).

The next day I got MUCH better accommodations in Newark with the freshly retired Mcbride’s. Pics are up on facebook. Had a great time in Newark with my hosts, and then headed out with fully charged batteries and a full stomach to conquer the remainder of Delaware…which took about two hours☺

Next up, Maryland!

Piles of “thank you’s”

Being home for a couple days was amazing. Seeing Laurie made me want to stay….even though I knew I couldn’t, and everyone was supportive and super eager to help in any way they could. Lots of pics up on Facebook…I will post more too when I work out some website glitches, but he team was great, Paul, Tom Hoopes, and Tim Ireland were great.

I got my new kicks from Rick up at Bucks County Running Co., and some other goodies☺. The shoes I had were long overdue (420 miles on ’em).

As fun as it was to be home I knew I had to get back to it, and Saturday was killer. 26.2 legit miles to get to my daughters place in west philly…and it was NOT the “scenic route”. It was however a great reminder that there are millions of people struggling in this country, and those who are not should be thankful.

While heading to the city I finalized a surprise for Laurie. She was already planning to go to the Eagles preseason game….and I was going to philly. So I worked out getting a ticket from my brother in law (thanks Steven), and after a quick shower at Stephanie’s house I took the subway to the game. Worked like a charm! I pretended to be the “peanut guy”….Laurie was surprised to say the least.☺

Again, thanks to everyone…❤

…more to come from Delaware!

New Jersey = done!☺

View of NYC from Hoboken I
View of NYC from Hoboken

After a ceremonial 5k run in Central Park, I left  New York via a short ferry ride across the Hudson to Hoboken. I knew that at some point I would finally get to see my 1st Wawa, but I also knew that New Jersey was going to be a challenge. NJ lived up to the hype! I traveled through Hoboken, Newport, Jersey City, and Harison enroute to Newark on day one. Throughout the day I didn’t see a single Wawa, but I did see a maze of swamps, train lines, highway overpasses and airplanes.

Just when things seemed darkest literally  (it was dusk), as I was approaching Newark things began to look up!

For the next two days things got progressively better….for the most part. I traveled through a plethora of “Brunswicks” and outran some nasty storms on the way to Princeton,

and had a wet night at a gypsy campsite.

…the best thing about New Jersey though is that it’s right next to Pennsylvania….which means today I get to see my wife and friends for the first time in a month and a half….and sleep in my bed….before I start the remaining 1400 miles to Key West!

These vagabond shoes….

20150815_171833….are longing to stray, right through the very heart of it, New York, New York!

First a big thanks to the Carillo family. They are all super great, and I had a great time during my short stay. The

After getting an early start from my wonderful host’s home in Port Washington, I made my way to the big apple…through Queens….in the scorching heat. BUT I MADE IT! 23 miles later I am chilin’ in west Harlem with the Wiggins boys (Justin ’08 and Ian ’10)
