Should i stay or should i go- The Clash

After a couple days of great food and great conversation i was beggining to think that taking up permanent residence here in this beatiful place was not such a bad idea! But i also knew that my goal was to do the entire east coast, and the final four states to my south lay waiting to be explored. So after saying goodbye to my fabulous hosts

History overload…..

After a long day on the roads of Viginia, and seeing countless historical markers

I finally arrived in Williamsburg….the motherland of american history. After checking into the Travelodge i ventured out into the beautiful historic town looking for dinner…and i found

HOOTERS Sports bar. The gang at Hooters was great, and very interested in my adventure. It was just the place to decommpress, and watch US Open coverage. And I knew I would see actual history again soon enough.

Showers are marvelous….

20150905_175339nullAfter three days and two nights outdoors, the prospect of a shower was like a birthday for a 5 year old. The past few days have been sparse on food options and shade, and i was beggining to feel like an unripe tomato that fell off the vine. Luckily, the 60 miles that separates Fredericksburg and the old logging port of West Point was not enough to ruin me….i did “ripen up” though?

The fields of soybeans and corn, and hourse farms seemed to go on forever.

Eventually though i found an oasis, a bar on the outskirts of West Point let me know i was almost back to civilization. Ashley poured me lots of water, and served me a giant plate of load nachos.

I ended the day with a beautiful sunset, and a shower!

….no pic of the shower?

My first “Forest followers”…

….saved the day!
What started as tough day, took a decidedly bad turn at the 10 mile mark.

The 1st of the only two food options of the day was “closed for renovations”. When i decided on this route i knew there would be limited resources, but now i had only one more shot for food and beverages on my 20 mile trek….and it was already in the mid-90s.
Two miles later a came upon option two, which was also closed?
As i was beginning to ponder how i might finish the last 8 miles with 5 ounces of warm water and no food, i heard voices coming from inside the closed restaurant. I tried another door and found half a dozen folks working inside the building. As i began to explain my situation they all began to try to help. In the end, they had no food, but did have water and ice, so i thanked them for their help and headed out with a fullbag of ice water (60 ounces) and a fighting chance to make it to Bowling Green.
Two miles later a car pulled up with a man named Xaivier and his angelic driver….whose name i did not get.
Xaivier hopped out and announced that he couldn’t stop thinking about my trip and wanted to walk with me for a few miles. “ANGEL”, then announced that she was going to get me some food.

Three miles later a burger and fries arrived at my roadside!
I did enjoy the burger and fries as i made my way across the final 5 miles to Bowling Green.
Thanks for all the help today….what wad shaping up to be a truly miserable day is now one of the best!
