Sorry folks, I typed three posts on my smartphone and they went poof when I tried to post them. Lots of pics will be going up in the gallery soon though, and I will try to redo the MIA posts….and I am not dead ☺
Off to Belfast!
Woke up with sore feet, but needed to make some time today. Although I’m nearly halfway through Maine, I still need to log miles. Wanted to get to Belfast, but could only muster 10 miles to Searsport….will rest my feet and regroup for tomorrow.👍
Epic day 10!
After spending the night in the tiny houses at the Sunset Motel, I made my way towards Bucksport Maine with an eye towards taking it easy and exploring the area….and that’s just how it played out. I mostly walked the 10 miles to Bucksport, and arrived at about 3:30pm after a late start and a couple stops along the way. When I checked into the Bucksport Motor Inn I learned that the beautiful new (2007) suspension bridge’s observation tower closes at 5:00 so i got changed, threw my extra stuff in the room and hit the road again to try and get to the bridge (and historic Fort Knox) before they closed. After visiting the bridge I walked another 2 miles back to downtown Bucksport and stumbled across a hometown ice cream shop, Whal’s Dairy Port…and had to stop and have some. Then, as I was walking the downtown area I noticed an old movie theater (The Alamo), as was just I time to see the last showing of the night of Inside Out….What a day! Bucksport is a great old fashioned town. PICS ATTACHED
Recovery hike towards Bucksport
After covering well over 100 miles in week one I needed a recovery day….unfortunately Bucksport is over 20 miles from Ellworth so I elected to split the difference and hike halfway to Bucksport (no running today) and stay in one of the adorable little shacks in the pics attached….a brilliant plan, except that there was no food anywhere near there. Net result, great place to sleep and recover, but I would need to get an early start in a quest for food on Sunday.
